Selma Lagerlöf sitting and talking with other participants at the international suffrage congress held in Stockholm on June 13, 1911. She gave the pointed speech "Home and State" where she talked about how women throughout the ages successfully built up the Home, and about how the men built up, but so far mismanaged, its creation the State. The issue of female suffrage was still a hot potato and it would take until 1921 before women were allowed to vote, making Sweden the last country in the Nordics with equal voting rights between the sexes.
