Poster with the original drawing of the grand Nordic Museum. The museum was founded by folklorist Artur Hazelius, who also founded Skansen (the world's first open-air museum). He was obsessed with preserving the Swedish and Nordic cultural heritage. He established a network of collectors around the country to send objects to Stockholm to fill the museum with. The building itself was completed in 1907 and has strong features of Nordic Renaissance castles, for example Fredriksborg Castle in Denmark. It stands today as a grand entrance to Djurgården and is a natural part of the city skyline.
